11Anti-Aging Secrets That Turn Back the Clock - Everything Abode

1. Regular Exercise.

When it comes to defying the aging process to look and feel a whole lot younger — an active body is a young body.

After all, active bodies can resist the aging process and look and feel younger.

It works like this: Your body will not move as well if you are constantly inactive.

Moreover, you may notice simple activities more difficult (than they once were), or you may also notice significant weight gain.

So if you take regular exercise into account and start moving a little, doing so can help you look and feel so much younger.

More importantly, regular exercise is great for your heart health.

Heart disease is the number one killer in the United States (as we get older), and we need exercise to keep the heart working at top capacity.

2. Drink Plenty of Water.

If you really want to know how to slow down aging, for starters, the body is made up mostly of water.

This means that the body needs the right amount of water to function properly. Without enough water, the body can become dehydrated, especially the skin.

So why does drinking water help you age well?

A sufficient amount of water in the body helps reduce the number one sign of aging — wrinkles. Moreover, hydration and elasticity of your skin are both maintained by water…

Therefore, drinking large quantities of water will help you less likely to develop scarring, and soft lines, as well as lower the risk of developing other signs of aging such as sagging skin.

Additionally, dehydration is one of the leading causes of fatigue, foggy thinking, headaches, and constipation and nobody wants that!

So to get an adequate daily water intake, healthcare experts suggest women should drink 11.5 cups of water every single day and men should drink 15.5 cups of water a day in order to stay healthy and defy the aging process.

3. Reduce Bad Habits.

Although there are some people, you may know that drink and smoke and live to old age, that’s the exception- not the rule.

These people who drink and smoke regularly aren’t doing any favors to their bodies or youthfulness!

So to maintain glowing, healthy skin and a healthy immune system, try to limit or eliminate smoking or drinking from your weekly routine altogether.

Bad habits such as these speed up the aging process fast and are the exact opposite of how to age slowly.

Moreover, since these substances can be highly addictive if you find limiting these bad habits yourself a tall feat?

Try reaching out to an addiction counselor, or alternatively, develop a support system to help you stay on track.

Conquering this now will be very beneficial not only for your mental health’s sake but for your health as a whole for the most obvious reason — to dramatically help slow down the aging process.

4. Take Supplements.

To learn how to age slowly, you need to give your body all of the nutrients it needs.

However, on certain days, you may not get a fully balanced diet.

And for days like these, if you have handy age-defying supplements, you’ll be another step closer to looking and feeling so much younger.

In particular, be sure to get enough vitamin B, vitamin C, vitamin E, and vitamin D daily.

Vitamin B is especially important for energy and brain function. Vitamin C and vitamin E are known to enhance the immune system and keep you from getting sick. Additionally, vitamin D helps support your bones, the appearance of your skin, and the overall immune system which is important to keep in mind as we age.

5. Eat a Healthy Diet.

Eating a Healthy Diet to defy the aging process - Everything Abode

Simply put, when we put healthy things into our bodies, it will help us not only look younger but feel younger.

After all, feeling young is also a great way to age gracefully.

Not only that but the things we put into our bodies radiate from the inside out, so focusing on eating fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins is another step toward aging slowly.

To help you eat a healthy diet, consider organic foods if possible and eliminate processed foods if you can.

Moreover, if you eliminate empty calories from your eating habits, such as potato chips and fries (these foods won’t give you any nutrients anyways), you will age all the better.

Additionally, there are so many healthy ways you can feed the body.

For instance, you can eat sparingly in intervals using the intermittent fasting method, or you can choose to eat healthy foods that are known to help aid in weight loss

6. Eat Anti-inflammatory foods.

Eat Anti-inflammatory foods

Consuming inflammatory foods can accelerate the aging process and reduce telomere length.

Telomeres are structures located at the ends of chromosomes and protect cell division. Simply put, the telomere functions as a clock. A shorter telomere means that a cell is older. Thus, early aging is caused by an inflamed diet that reduces the telomere length prematurely.

To help strengthen your very own telomeres, here are a few foods to keep in mind regarding aging and having flawless skin

Foods to reduce inflammation:

  • Fresh fruits like oranges, blueberries, and strawberries.
  • Leafy green vegetables such as spinach and kale.
  • Olive oil.
  • Omega-3 fatty acids are found in most fish, such as mackerel and salmon.
  • Nuts such as almonds and walnuts.

Foods that cause inflammation:

  • Sugar, especially high-fructose corn syrup, is a common ingredient in desserts, beverages, and pastries.
  • Trans fats are found in fried foods, processed snacks, donuts, and margarine.
  • Bologna, sausages, bacon, salami, and beef jerky are all processed meats that cause inflammation.
  • Refined carbohydrates include white rice, white potatoes, and other packaged cereal. Bread and crackers made with white flour are good examples of refined carbohydrates.

7.  Get good sleep to slow aging.

We all know that the body needs sleep to repair and recharge itself.

But did you know that insufficient sleep can lead to serious health problems, including premature aging?

Since sleep is the best time when our body restores its own cells, insufficient sleep for long periods is also linked to an increased risk of depression, obesity, heart disease, early death, and many other health problems.

To help get a good night’s sleep here are a few tips:

  • Set a schedule. Even on weekends, try to go to bed and get up at the same time daily. Doing so will help your body’s natural clock maintain a steady sleep-wake cycle and encourage restorative sleep.
  • Relax. Relaxing activities should be done an hour before bedtime. Avoid strenuous exercise, and bright light from phones, computers, and TV screens.
  • Avoid alcohol, caffeine, or nicotine before bed. These substances can interfere with your ability to fall asleep fast and get restorative sleep.
  • Keep your bedroom cool and dark. This will create a conducive environment for restorative rest.

8. Have a Religious Skincare Routine.

When learning how to age slowly, it’s paramount that you know this…

Did you know that the skin is the largest organ of the body? It’s also the first organ of the body to show signs of aging.

This is why you see so many skincare articles out there. Because the skin is essentially the surface of the body in which, people see aging first.

So do your best defense against looking older and make a point to take care of your skin daily by having a regular and daily skincare routine.

You can easily do this with a thoughtful skincare routine full of moisturizers and oils.

Moreover, learn various different and unique ways to achieve great skin, such as using different masks and deep cleansers.

To learn more about your skin type, pick products appropriately for oily/dry or sensitive skin types. Follow your skincare routine daily to see the results you want, and be consistent for your best defense on how to age slowly and fast!

9. Cleanse your skin gently.

Another great alternative to a good skincare routine and to age slowly is to cleanse your skin gently.

Scrubbing your skin too rough can irritate your skin and irritating your skin accelerates premature aging.

To easily combat this, remove makeup and pollutants by always gently washing your skin.

10. Always protect your skin from the sun.

In order to slow down aging, every day, protect your skin from the sun. Sun protection is important, no matter if you are spending the day on the beach or running errands.

Sun protection can be achieved by finding shade and covering up with sun-protective clothing, such as a lightweight long-sleeved shirt, trousers, and a wide-brimmed cap.

Also, make sure to use sunscreen with broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher and that is water-resistant.

Sunscreen should be applied to any skin that isn’t covered by clothing every day. Moreover, look for clothing that has an ultraviolet protection factor (UPF), to get more protection.

And since the sun helps create vitamin D, make sure you get the vitamin you need in other ways.

11. Avoid repeating facial expressions.

The underlying muscles of your face are crucial in keeping you young and able to resist the aging process.

If you don’t exercise or stretch your facial muscles, the lines you create with the same expressions will remain.

You can also develop lines if you keep contracting the same muscles for years.

But, there’s a way around it!

Squinting can cause lines, so make sure to always have sunglasses on sunny days.

12. Wash your face after sweating heavily.

You won’t get any benefit of aging slowly if you are sweating heavily.

In fact, it’s actually a good idea to wash your skin as soon as you finish sweating.

For instance, wearing a helmet or a cap can lead to extra moisture and that extra moisture can give your skin the wrong toxins it doesn’t need. Clean yourself up after every sweat session and you will be one step closer to defying the aging process.

13. Use a good daily moisturizer.

You can make your skin look even more youthful by applying a facial moisturizer every day.

Moisturizers help trap water in the epidermis (the thin layer of skin which is crucial to stay hydrated) giving it an appearance that’s full and healthy-looking!

14. Avoid using products that sting or cause the skin to burn.

Avoid using products that sting or cause the skin to burn because if your skin stings or burns, it is likely that your skin has become inflamed.

Moreover, it can make your skin look older because the products are irritating it.

What products are best for your skin? Natural products.

Natural products with natural ingredients are better for you, and they won’t irritate or burn as those harsh chemical ones do!

15. Pay Attention to Dental Hygiene.

One aspect many people tend to forget about (when it comes to how to slow aging) is their dental health.

In fact, did you know that bad-looking teeth can make you look older?

Moreover, if you brush your teeth twice a day that may not cut it!

In fact, to age slowly and to look like time hasn’t gone by at all, make flossing your teeth a regular ritual.

Flossing your teeth will not only help maintain your overall gum health but good gum health is your best bet to age gracefully when you get older.

While you are at it visit a dentist at least every nine months.

16. Social Stimulation is very important to live a long life.

As we get older, people get busy.

They tend to have more focus on their work and family, instead of hanging out with friends as they once did.

However, if you can relate, you might wake up one day and realize you don’t have as many friends as you used to.

Moreover, a lack of social stimulation can lead to depression and studies show that social stimulation can help you live longer.

Harvard Women’s Health Watch stated, “Dozens upon studies have shown that people with satisfying relationships with their family, friends, and community are happier, have fewer health problems, and live for longer.”

Besides, we all need to make social interaction a top priority in our lives in order to feel young.

So go out once a month if that’s all you can do and talk to your loved ones throughout the week. I bet if you do, you will feel much better for it and it will show on your face!

18. Take Care of Your Mental Health.

In fact, as we get older, the process of aging can be quite stressful and that added stress can also lead to premature aging.

This is why mental health and having a mental health game plan is a very important part of aging well.

In fact, studies have shown that when you are mentally healthy, the cells in your body function more efficiently.

Not only that but your cells also repair themselves better than they would without this type of coverage- which leads us all on a healthy path towards living longer lives with less risk for illness or injury!

So to slow down the process of aging, take care of your mental health and the stress that is in your life by having an active self-care routine.

Better yet, if you can go to a therapist (if you find it necessary to do so), all the better!

I would like to agree with everything you said, BUT my mom who never had any serious health issues her entire life and followed everything you listed to the tee, had a stoke in sept. And passed away in April. She was one of the most healthiest people I’ve known and it didn’t matter in the end. Supposed to have passed from leukemia, come to find out the doctors really didn’t know. They said they would use her chart for case studies. So when it’s your time, it’s your time. Mom was a young 78 yr woman.
